City of Aiken Recreation

Recreational services are available through the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with leisure programs and activities for people of all ages and abilities. The City’s recreational programs have repeatedly been recognized as among the best in the state and in the nation, with both national and state awards for the quality and innovation of recreational services. Facilities are located throughout the City, and the City offers quality parks, playgrounds, playing fields, gyms, walking tracks, and beautiful open space for all residents. Non-City residents may purchase a membership that entitles them to City rates; otherwise they are required to pay the Out-of-City rates.


The City operates ten neighborhood parks, many including playgrounds, tennis courts, walking tracts, and picnic facilities. The City also offers several major recreational activity centers, including:

Citizens Park, located on Pine Log Road, between Banks Mill and Old Airport Road. Citizens Park includes tournament softball fields, and hosts soccer and baseball, and tournaments throughout the season. To reach the offices of Citizens Park, please call us at (803) 642-7761.

The City of Aiken offers a rain-out line for all programs. In case of inclement weather, call (803) 643-4661 for daily updates.

Hopelands , on Dupree Place includes Rye Patch , the Racing Hall of Fame , and concerts and plays throughout the summer. For assistance, please call us at (803) 642-7630.

Rye Patch Reception Center, located at 100 Berrie Road, adjoins Hopelands Garden.

Smith Hazel Recreation Center, located 400 Kershaw Street, NE is a neighborhood activity center and includes indoor and outdoor basketball, outdoor swimming pool, walking/skating track, tennis courts, playground, activity rooms, and meeting space. For assistance, please call us at (803) 642-7635.

Virginia Acres Park, located at 1700 Whiskey Road, includes the H. O. Weeks Recreation Center that houses the administrative offices for the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. The Weeks Center offers two indoor gyms, racquetball court, a multi-purpose room with a floating floor for aerobics, karate, and other activities, and meeting space. Also located within Virginia Acres are a one-mile paved walk/jog/skate track, a ceramics facility, and a playground. The H. O. Weeks Tennis Complex has hard and clay courts, concession facility, pro-shop and tennis merchandise. For assistance, please call us at (803) 642-7631.
