Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a job line?
Currently we do not, but if you have Atlantic Broadband Cable,
you can see City of Aiken job listings on Channel 4.
Does the city make training
available to its employees?
Training for employees has always been a priority
of the City of Aiken. Funding is set aside each year to send employees to various
seminars and conferences to help them increase their knowledge and to maintain their
skill levels.
How long is my application active?
We only accept applications
for positions during the time the position is being advertised or is posted. Therefore,
each time a position becomes available, you must fill out a new application. Each
position has an opening date and a closing date. If you do not fill out an application
for the position between the times the job is open and it closes, the City cannot
consider you for employment for that position.
What are the opportunities for
advancements with the City of Aiken?
We encourage our employees to gain the
necessary skills, training, and experience to take on greater responsibility within
the city and to move into other positions. The City has a history of promoting employees
from within when possible.
What benefits am I eligible for if I work for the
city?
As a City employee, one of the greatest
benefits is to be involved in work that makes a difference. Every
work activity performed by a City employee is for the purpose of maintaining and
improving the lives of citizens and families.
What is the status of my application?
Once
applications are received by Human Resources from the South Carolina Employment
Security Office, the applications are forwarded to the hiring department. Usually
the hiring department will schedule and conduct the interviews for their department.
Once the hiring department has concluded the interviews, recommendations on their
choices will be forwarded to the Human Resources Department. At that time, the Human
Resources Department will perform background checks on the recommended employees.
When that occurs, then we are entering the final stage of the hiring process. Once
the background checks are completed, the recommended employees will be scheduled
for physicals and drug screenings. Once the physicals and drug screenings are satisfactorily
completed, the applicants are cleared to be hired.
Where do I apply for a job?
The
City of Aiken Human Resources Department works closely with the South Carolina Employment
Security Office. The Employment Security Office takes applications on all City of
Aiken positions. They forward the applications to the Human Resources Department
who in turn logs the applicant’s name into a file along with the date the application
was received. Then the application is forwarded to the hiring department.
